Red Wings Season Tickets & The Lockout
September 15, 2004 was a fateful day for those hoping to buy Detroit Red Wings season tickets for the 2004-05 season. That was the day that commissioner Gary Bettman announced that the league's 30 franchises would lock out players until a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) was reached. That wound up taking far longer than anyone could have expected. Fans watched on as one-by-one the landmark's of their sport faded away, first the All-Star Game and then the Draft, until finally the entire season is cancelled in February. It is only the second time the 112-year history of the Stanley Cup that the trophy is not awarded. After months of excruciating negotiations, however, a new deal is finally reached on July 13, 2005. The new CBA establishes a salary cap, but more importantly, it paves the way for the Red Wings and all of the other NHL players to return to the ice for the 2005-06 season.
